Blame the mountain

Jesus said … “if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20 ESV)

Few things upset me more than believers who fault a person’s faith as the reason for unanswered prayers, especially prayers for healing some malady. How often have I witnessed or heard about some ‘anointed’ spiritual leader who laid hands on someone for healing, who then turned and blamed the person who came for prayer claiming they had too little faith to be healed?

Too little faith? Did they not come for prayer? Try to stand up from their wheelchairs? Drop their crutches? Remove their hearing aids? Take off their dark glasses? Are not those acts in and of themselves faith like a mustard seed?

If the degree of faith is to blame, why did Jesus talk about tiny mustard seed faith and not a more substantial avocado seed faith? Better still, coconut seed faith!

As for whom to blame when we say to “this mountain, ‘MOVE!'” and it does not move, do we blame the mountain?
